PCT Day 15

5.29.22 || PCT Day 15: 259.4 - 273.0 miles (half day)

tldr; windiest camping ever, family cabin in big bear 🏠, quick resupply

Our tent collapsed on us last night, like three times. I think I slept for maybe 40 minutes. Felt like we were in a wind tunnel. By sunrise the wind got so intense we agreed that hiking was better than lying there waiting for the tent to collapse again. We started hiking by 5:40am.

I was basically asleep for the first two hours of hiking, and by 8am we were at highway 18 where my aunt and her husband Karl planned to meet us. I hadn’t seen her in years so it was great to catch up. We stopped by a donut shop to get breakfast and then went on to the cabin.

My grandparents bought the cabin in 1986 and we used to come up here every winter and most summers. It’s a little A frame with 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom but it’s quaint and homey. Caught up with Cindy  and resupplied at stater bros in town. It was crazy busy — forgot it was memorial day weekend. Not the best resupply because some things were sold out but I got these new rice noodles I’m gonna try coldsoaking.

By the time we packed up, it was 4:30 and time to get back to the trail. It was tempting to stay at the cabin but we wanted to keep moving because it’s getting hotter everyday. Hiked another 6.8 miles to a campsite and staked our tent like crazy to make sure it wouldn’t collapse in the wind.
