PCT Day 14

5.28.22 || PCT Day 14: 235.5 - 259.4 miles

tldr; sluggish climbing, back to lupines and 🌲, big bear tomorrow!!

Camped at this great spot above Mission Creek last night. It was buggy and pretty windy so we slept in a bit later. Had an unrelenting climb for the first 5 miles.

We’re headed into Big Bear Lake — another mountain town in SoCal. It’s like the Tahoe of LA but much more underwhelming yet somehow more crowded. Still – it’s beautiful and not the desert, so I’ll take it. Hiked through a big burn area again today, seems like every time we’re gonna hit pine forests it’s been burned down some time in the last 10 years. The regrowth is beautiful though — so many lupines ♥️

We’ve been in a bubble of hikers who took a rest day in Cabazon, it’s been so nice to see familiar faces and start chatting with more people. We ate lunch at this car camping campground and it was so busy. Forgot it was Memorial Day weekend! I thought I packed way too much food for this stretch but I’m so so hungry all the time that I basically eat 2x my normal amount for every meal.

At Onyx Summit we came across Jen and her van + some more trail magic. Then I called my aunt Cindy who has a cabin in big bear to coordinate a ride into town for the next day. Camped about 7 miles outside the highway — nero tomorrow to resupply but we’ll get back on trail instead of staying in town.
