PCT Day 11

5.25.22 || Day 11: 190.5 - 209.5  miles

tldr; hit 200 miles, descended 9000+ feet, made it to cabazon, 🤢 mid trail

Woke up early this morning to start the descent into Cabazon. We wanted to get there as early as possible because my parents were going to meet us there for our first zero :) Most of the people camping around us left around 5 am but we left closer to 6:45.

The first 10 miles went pretty fast, descending early in the morning is the ideal. But as we got closer to the desert floor, it started to get sooo hot. The high for Cabazon (where we were headed) was 97. After breakfast, I started to feel terrible. Really nauseous. Maybe it was the hot dogs? (10/10 would eat again.) Or maybe I was a bit dehydrated and had early stage heat exhaustion. Regardless, I let Tyler get a little farther head and then threw up off trail 🥴

The last 9.5 miles felt really long, knowing my parents were waiting at the highway crossing was the only thing keeping me going. Filled up water at 4 miles out and then trudged through the sandy, windy open stretch to the 10 freeway. We passed more trail magic ✨ at mile 207 and even though I felt so gross I drank Gatorade because how could I not.

Finally made it to the crossing and my dad was waiting with a date shake. Drove to In-n-Out straight away and ordered a burger and fries – so ready for our first official zero day.

tmi; also threw up the In-n-Out, such a tragedy
