PCT Day 6

5.20.22 || Day 6: 101.1 -124.9 miles

tldr; first ☁️ day, resupply package at Warner Springs, dill pickle chips

Woke up to the first cloudy day we’ve had to far. It was glorious. Chilly out, cold enough to want to wear your puffy but you know you’ll warm up so you just shiver for the first few minutes of the hike.

It was 8.3 miles to Warner Springs but the miles went SO fast. Pretty flat, lots of cows, two big garden snakes.

The post office is clearly a hot spot for pct hikers — there was a hiker box (a box with extra supplies that people overpacked or wanted to drop to lighten their pack), a pct hiker log, and a quick system to get your packages. I stuffed 3/4 days of food for both of us into a small flat rate box and I think it broke in transit haha but someone taped the side and everything made it. Sat outside the gas station and organized everything.

Gas prices were off the charts

We picked up some more snacks at the gas mart and got a ride from a trail angel named Off Trail back to the trail. Followed the Agua Caliente creek for several miles and realized it was the first creek/water feature we’ve hiked by yet. So wild.

Started what felt like an interminable climb but it was beautiful. Couldn’t see anything below us after a few hundred feet. The air was crisp, reminded me of going to the mountains when I was a kid and we would look down at the layer of smog over the valley and take extra breaths of the fresh air.

Camped a few miles outside “Mike’s Place”, a trail angel’s place with a water tank and occasional trail magic. Coldest night yet. Ate dill pickle chips from the gas mart in bed and it was maybe the happiest I’ve been?
