nine things

introducing nine things, where I ramble about recent thoughts or wonder about things I know very little about

  1. A lot of people I really care about in my life are left-handed. My best friend from high school, my college roommate, my boyfriend. An odd coincidence? Or is there something about the way my brain is wired that attracts me to the southpaws, the creative thinkers, the kids with pencil lead smeared on the sides of their hands.

  2. I’m good about most adult things, but so so terrible about getting my car washed. Or just washing it myself. It’s one of those things where you never do it for years and never notice a thing. Then — smack — your paint’s faded and your dad’s telling you all it would’ve taken was a bit of elbow grease and some wax.

  3. I was stoked to watch the last season of peaky bilnders two weeks ago. I did all my chores around the house, grocery shopped, meal prepped, worked out — all in the name of a loooong saturday night binge. Only to log on and learn it had only gone live in the U.K. Soul-crushing to wait another month for tommy shelby and the peaking forking blinders.

  4. Someone asked me what month I would delete from the year, and though it’s the shortest, most unassuming month of them all, I chose February. It stretches on for an eternity, the long wait for winter to be over. Plus, my cat died in February and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive it.

  5. I’ve been gluten free for the last ten years. And I finally, FINALLY, found a cookbook with a decent gf bread recipe. More than decent, transcendent. I think I cried when I took the lid off my dutch oven and found a loaf that not only resembled real bread, but tasted just like it. Spring, stretchy, food of the gods. Ty @cannellevanille.

  6. Arizona doesn’t do daylight savings. So from november to march, I work moutain time since my job is on pacific time. And it’s always this odd limbo — if I can drag myself out of bed early I feel like a champion, reading or writing or just doing before the workday has started. Other days: I snooze forever, why must I work until 6:30pm, the sun, she’s already gone home for the day..

  7. Grocery store coupons give me a rush. Here’s something I have to buy every week and somehow I worked the system to get a $ off, or a buy one get one. I wanted to be an extreme couponer when I was a kid. Could still happen.

  8. Is everyone’s hair always really flat? My hair is virtually plastered to my head and I wonder if it’s a me thing or maybe if I blowdried my hair or even brushed it if I would have some sort of volume. As it is, I spend all day flipping my hair back and forth across my part trying to fluff it up.

  9. The public library in Tucson has the best librarians in the world. Flat out. I checked out a book that was published two weeks ago, no wait. It’s like they reward you for browsing the shelves. Lucky day library finds, up there with puppies and rainbows and licorice whips, however that saying goes.
